A Virtual Power Plant at your School

Welcome to the PowerSync Technologies Virtual Power Plant Program registration page. Here, you can register your details on a no obligation basis to receive further information about the program. A VPP not only saves the school money, but it also brings a new level of control and optimisation of energy within your school.

With each Australian classroom consuming the equivalent of half a household of electricity each year, schools can’t afford to miss this opportunity.

The Schools VPP Program not only reduces that strain on the grid, it saves costs and enables more renewables!

FAQs

What is a VPP?

A VPP is a Virtual Power Plant that uses technology to aggregate a wide range of distributed energy assets, allowing them to reach sufficient scale and compliance standards to participate in the wholesale energy market or provide ancillary services to the network.

How will my school benefit from being part of the PowerSync Schools VPP?

Participating in the PowerSync VPP will allow your school to generate additional revenue and decarbonisation potential from existing assets such as batteries, solar, back-up generators or even loads such air conditioning systems, while benefiting the wider community. VPP participation can also make the case for new energy assets you might be looking to deploy, in particular batteries, which will further reduce your school’s energy bills in the face of increasing energy prices.

How will my school’s participation help the Australian electricity grid manage the transition to renewable energy focused generation?

With an increasing number of distributed renewable energy assets powering our electricity grid, net consumer demand fluctuates markedly throughout the day. Net demand also fluctuates depending on weather conditions such as amount of sunshine or wind. This requires the Australian Energy Market Operator to rely on market participants to shave net demand peaks and troughs and to provide frequency support – ancillary services for which market participants are remunerated. By joining the fully market compliant PowerSync Schools VPP, you will gain access to these markets and value streams without disrupting your operations.

Will I need to install additional hardware?

PowerSync’s proprietary Edge Controller will be installed on site, allowing your assets to communicate with our technology platform and for performance to be monitored at all times. PowerSync also has capabilities to support your team should you wish to deploy new battery assets.

How much will it cost?

Simple access to our platform carries limited costs. Should you wish to take this opportunity to build out your portfolio of energy assets, Powersync can offer system sizes and functionalities that are modular and tailored to your budget, allowing you to address your current needs while remaining flexible enough to cater to future requirements.

How disruptive will it be to my school’s operations?

Participation in the VPP will not cause any disruption to your day-to-day operations. You remain in control of when and how you participate, during weekends and school holidays for example, and you can opt out at any time.

What will happen once my school is signed up?

By signing up to the PowerSync VPP program, you will join a cohort of schools in your state who have chosen to be active participants in Australia’s energy transition. Our dedicated team will be in touch to provide you with a free detailed analysis of the value you can expect based on your assets, location and preferred participation patterns.
